Denis Garcia, Nicaraguan policial asylum seeker

Spende geschützt
This campaign is to help Denis with the expenses related to the political asylum process, travel expenses for his wife and children to move from Nicaragua to the US, and housing/transportation expenses as the family gets settled.

Denis Garcia is a recently freed Nicaraguan political prisoner. He was part of a group of 222 political prisoners who were exiled to the United States by the Nicaraguan government on Feb. 9, 2023. Denis was imprisoned for three years and four months before his release. He was imprisoned because of his involvement in the 2018 protests against the injustices being perpetrated against the Nicaraguan people, by President Ortega and his government. Denis was involved with student protestors from the National Agrarian University, where he was an adjunct professor. Using his veterinary skills, Denis was able to provide medical care to injured students, who were denied care at the hospitals, at the government's orders.

Denis is currently staying with Jeff and Maria Osborne in North Manchester, Indiana. Denis and Jeff have been connected since 2018 when Denis (a veterinarian by trade) partnered with the Manchester University medical practicum to provide veterinary services, in addition to medical services, in rural areas of Nicaragua.

Denis has been granted two years of humanitarian parole, in which he can apply for political asylum. He has been approved to work and is currently waiting for the official paperwork. Denis is currently exploring employment options that will allow him to exercise his passion for veterinary medicine. In a recent development, the Nicaraguan government has approved Denis's family to leave Nicaragua. They now have passports and an exit visa, which is valid for 30 days (from Mar. 30). Action is being taken to arrange sponsorship of the family by Jeff and Maria Osborne.
