About The Family

Alicia and Dean live in rural Zumbro Falls, Minnesota with their three boys Austen (16), Alex (15), and Dominic (15). Alicia has her own craft business and Dean is a farmer. In her free time away from crafting, Alicia enjoys spending time with her family and showing horses. Dean enjoys spending time with the family, fishing, snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle, antique tractors, and a second love with sweets. The boys enjoy playing video games, wrestling, fishing, hanging out with their friends, caring for animals and helping their dad at the farm.

The Story

On Tuesday, June 30th, the boys were in various parts of the house, and Dean was in the basement when something caused an explosion in the house. A guardian angel had to be watching over the family as Alicia was within seconds of reaching the door when this happened. She watched her home explode knowing her family was all inside. She rushed into the house and met with Dean, who was covered in burns making his way up the stairs. The boys were completely shaken up but otherwise uninjured.

Dean was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN and then transferred to the Regions Hospital Burn Center in Saint Paul, MN that afternoon. He has burns on his face, neck, arms and hands. The burns on his hands require skin grafts and Dean is expected to remain at the Burn Center through the end of July. While Dean is the only member of the family with physical injuries, their house is a total loss.

I'm creating this page as a way for people to support the Michel family. Due to COVID-19, the possibility of a benefit seems distant.

The support received so far has been overwhelming. Although the house was a total loss, most of the family's necessities were salvageable. They have shelter and clothing and other necessities. The boys and Alicia are able to remain at the farm to take care of the livestock.

Alicia has been traveling back and forth to the burn center every day to be with Dean. The boys were granted a one-time special visit on Wednesday, July 8th and were able to see each other for the first time since Dean left in the ambulance. They will not be able to see him again until he returns home. Visitation rules are strict due to COVID-19.

How You Can Help

Family and Friends are working on an online auction in lieu of a benefit. Donations made through this GoFundMe page will help the family pay for medical bills, daily expenses, and other expenses not covered by insurance. Dean and Alicia are both self-employed and do not have income unless they are able to work.

We understand times are tough for many with the pandemic but any donated amount would be appreciated to help this family in this great time of need.

How Else Can You Help
