Temp. Bike Lane-Parking Day

Donation protected
Park(ing) Day Providence is upping the ante this year, Sept. 19th, bringing not just parklets, but the first-ever protected bike lane in the state, from Dean Street to Tobey Street on Broadway. The temporary protected bike lane will be just unidirectional in order to be logistically easier to set up. Next to the protected bike lane will be the parklets.

Protected bike lanes make the road safer for bikers, pedestrians and drivers. We're using Park(ing) Day, a national day where people turn parking spots into public space, to highlight the need for safe bicycle infrastructure. In other places in the country, temporary protected bike lanes have resulted in permanent cycletracks (which is our hope). Watch a pop up protected bike lane in action!

As you may imagine, there's a huge cost to this. We have to pay the city a permit to use the string of parking spots to create the protected bike line. The money will also be used to buy plants, plant holders and other decorations to create the barrier. We thank you for your help in creating the state's first protected bike lane.
