End Child Abuse

In January of 2019 police arrested Yuichiro Kurihara on suspicion of assaulting his 10-year-old daughter Mia, whose body was found with several bruises on it.
 
Mia Kurihara, who died in January following a series of alleged assaults by her own father, was released from protective custody despite suspicion that her father had sexually and physically abused her.
 
The 10-year-old girl had told child welfare center officials during interviews in 2017 that her father had woken her up at night and pulled her pants down. She said her underwear had also slipped down, and that when she told him to stop and pulled her pants up Kurihara threatened her.
 
During the interviews, which were conducted while she was in protective custody at the child welfare center, Mia also gave accounts of physical abuse by her father, such as him covering her mouth and nose with his hands while she was asleep.
 
The center ended her protective custody even though a doctor said she had been subjected to assaults as well as sexual abuse and was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
 
Mia was taken into protective custody by the center on November 7th, 2017, after she reported in a school questionnaire that her father “abused” her.
 
Officials in local governments apparently failed to share information on the family, revealing a lack of coordination among authorities and questionable responses.
 
Despite abuse allegations made by Mia in a school questionnaire, the local education board provided a copy of Mia’s complaint to her abusive father, ultimately resulting in her death.
 
Mia’s mother, Nagisa Kurihara, was arrested as an accomplice who just stood by and did nothing to help her daughter.
 
Welfare officials also failed to check on Mia’s safety after her protective custody ended.
 
Mia’s lifeless body was found with bruises and scratches in the bathroom of her home on January 24th, 2019.
 
Unfortunately, there are too many similar cases in Japan. Father kills daughter. Father kills son. Mother kills daughter. Mother kills son. Boyfriend kills daughter/son of girlfriend. Unlike other countries, seldom do these monsters receive the proper justice that should be handed down in such a case.
 
In memory of Mia and all other angels taken too soon, and to celebrate my 35thbirthday, I am asking all of you to help me help these angels receive the protection they so badly deserve. I am on a mission to start a center where children themselves can walk-in to receive the proper care and protection without having to worry about any repercussions from anyone. Through the center I would also like to bring awareness to other members of the community to report any kind of ABUSE. I am so sick of watching the interviews where neighbors say, “I repeatedly heard a child’s cries coming from the home” after the fact. Sitting by and doing nothing is just as bad.
 
I will match everyone’s contribution, dollar for dollar. All funds raised will go towards the opening of the center to protect our angels.
