DAYE Movement Empowerment Ride:

“Ride to DC" and "DC to Da Burg" equals "500 in Seven"

On August 22, 2021 I will once again be cycling with Ride to DC (RTDC) from New York City to Washington DC for the second annual Ride to DC. Last year we rode to Washington DC for the Commitment March commemorating the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. This is where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr delivered his powerful "I Have A Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. This year Ride to DC (Ride to Diversify Cycling) will be doing the epic journey once again. We arrive in DC on Friday, August 27 after traveling 300 miles from NYC over the coarse of five days with a rest day in the middle. Last years ride was truly life changing and I expect no less from our 2021 ride!

Saturday morning August 28th will mark the second phase of my journey. In DC I will be linking up with my close childhood friends, Ricky Duncan, Chris Matthews and Gerald Pannel to cycle back to where it all began; our hometown of Lynchburg, VA. The DAYE Movement Empowerment Ride: “DC to Da Burg,” will be the hardest two days of the journey, cycling over 200 miles in just two days. Our support team includes, Jared Anderson, Abraham Hughes and Lorenzo Megginson. I am extremely grateful for this amazing opportunity and for all of the support I have received along the way. This will truly be an epic journey.

From start to finish I will have cycled over 500 miles in Seven days.

The final destination of our ride will be Miller Park with a community cookout on Sunday at 3pm August 29, 2021. Details to come!

A brief history of DAYE Movement:

As some of you may know I am adopted and am blessed to be part of a family who loves me unconditionally. What some of you might not know is the circumstances of my adoption. Race was the sole reason I was placed for adoption. My birth father is Black and my (deceased) birth mother was white. Race has affected me since before I stepped foot on this earth. This is a major reason why I have been so ardently outspoken against both racism and discrimination my entire life. Movement/fitness, photography and civil rights are three of my greatest passions. DAYE Movement is an organization that I have been working on the past couple of years. We became incorporated in October of 2020 as a result of the outpouring of support I received from last summer’s “Freedom Ride” fundraising campaign that I created as I cycle with RTDC for the Commitment March last summer (August 28, 2020). DAYE Movement is designed to combat socially constructed issues that are discriminatory, to promote equality and unity; and to bring about much needed changes in our world through empowerment. Our goal at DAYE Movement is to support outreach organizations that are bringing about change. We are hoping to be designated as nonprofit 501C3 in 2022.

D-A-Y-E is a combination of my adoptive parents' names, David and Kaye. They gave me unconditional love and taught me the importance of faith, community and giving. This is my way of honoring my parents. I also owe this fight to my ancestors and I have a strong obligation to help create change for our future generations. This is my only option!

We move to create…

We move to inspire…

We move to empower…

We move because movement makes change possible!
