David/Spike's Refugee Volunteering
Donation protected
Hello! I am David (otherwise known as Spike).
Last year I was helping with the refugee crisis in Northern Greece on the Greek/Macedonian border.
I worked with several different grassroots volunteering organisations. However, the main organisation I was working with was Hot Food Idomeni. This group aimed to serve between 2000-5000 hot meals a day to refugees in a variety of camps around the border.
This organisation then moved to Belgrade in Serbia as the European refugee crisis situation is incredibly fluid and as Belgrade became a new crisis point. Hot Food's role was, in time, overtaken by a new organisation Belgr-Aid aiming to offer a similar service to the refugees in the area.
Now that I have finished my MA I have the time to go and work with Belgr-Aid indefinitely. I have estimated that I will need around £300 a month to live on in order to make my volunteer work sustainable in the long term.
I have saved some money for this volunteering effort and I shall also be aiming to make myself useful enough to a NGO that they help pay for my living expenses. However, in the meantime I would very much appreciate any money that you would like to donate.
I shall be attempting to keep semi-regular updates on what is going on with the refugee crisis in the areas that I am working in.
Thankyou in Advance
