David's 3rd (and hopefully last) Achilles Repair
Spende geschützt
Dear Family, Friends, and Teammates,
We hope you're all doing well. We’re reaching out to share a personal challenge and an opportunity for support. No one should feel obliged to help, and especially if it would be a financial burden on you.
As you know, David tore his Achilles tendon last May. After two failed repair surgeries, he is still significantly limited in walking. So, he sought out the top surgeon, Dr. Lew Schon in New York. He plans to get another operation on February 20th that will hopefully give him the best recovery possible at this point.
Unfortunately, Dr. Schon's surgery will cost $11,000 (down from $22,000 after some negotiating ) Our insurance will cover the rest of the hospital bills after we pay another $4,000 to the out-of-pocket maximum.
The cost is daunting for us, especially with everything else going on. This past year has been hard. We welcomed our son Lionel in September, lost Dodi's mom in November, and are about to close on our first home on March 8th. With all that, our savings are pretty stretched.
David’s always prided himself on being self-reliant. We’ve used HSA, rugby supplemental insurance, and other maneuvers on the previous surgeries. We are taking a loan from the 401(k) to make this surgery payment. But we made this page since folks have expressed a desire to help minimize the impact of this on our family. We also deeply appreciate all the non-financial support we’ve received from our community over the last year, like coming by the house.
If you're in a position to contribute, we'd be incredibly grateful. But if money's tight, please don't worry. Just your good thoughts mean a lot to us. Every bit helps, but your support, in any form, is what's most important.
Thank you. Your support and encouragement mean everything to us.
Warmly,
David and Dodi
