Daren Wing's Journey To A Healthier Heart
Beschermde donatie
My siblings and I, Daren Wing Jr, Carol Sinclair, and Andrew Wing, hope to rally support for our father, Daren Wing, as he works his way through severe heart failure. Our Dad’s health has been deteriorating for the last year and a half causing him extensive medical attention. Two weeks ago, during a lengthy stay at Northern Light, we learned that Dad is in severe heart failure with 5 blockages in his heart. His heart is functioning at an incredibly low rate which is putting him in a very fragile state of health. On Monday, November 13, Dad had an appointment with a cardiac surgeon at Mass General. The surgeon gave Dad a year at best as is, so he feels it's necessary to move forward right away with first, open heart surgery to improve Dad's odds. Dad will be admitted on Wednesday, November 15 to begin pre-op procedures with open heart surgery scheduled for Friday, November 17. During open heart surgery, the surgeon will bypass the blockages as well as install a temporary heart to take the load off of Dad's heart during recovery, improving his chances for a successful surgery and recovery. If during the surgery or recovery, Dad’s heart is in a worse, more unstable condition the surgeon will then go back to place a permanent artificial heart and Dad will then be put on the heart transplant list. The permanent artificial heart will buy Dad more time while he waits on the transplant list. They’re currently looking at a 3 to 4-week stay in Boston though it has the potential to be much longer if we have to fall back to rely on the backup plans that are in place to keep Dad here with us for as long as possible. Our mother, Mary Wing, has been Dad’s main source of support, taking on the role of main provider of their household for the last year and a half as well as tending to all of Dad’s medical needs and advocating for him. Our mom will now be out of work for a substantial amount of time as she continues to stay by Dad's side throughout this heart journey. With Dad being out of work for over a year already and with the fight for his life on the horizon we’re hoping to rally support to ease the financial burden of maintaining their household while also making it easier for Mom to completely focus on Dad and be in Boston with him for the entirety of this process. Needless to say, the road has been long already but we’re holding on to hope that Dad will be back to feeling like his old, goofy, full-of-life self by the end of this heart journey. And we know that it’d be a HUGE blessing and gift to Mom and Dad to ease this weight for them as they continue to stick to each other’s side just as they have for the last 35 years. Please pray that Dad’s surgery and recovery will have a positive outcome as well as strength for him to fight.
Thank you.
