INTRODUCING DANNY`S LINE

Paul Stevens – “August 2012, it was my daughter’s birthday, we had a house full of people and everyone was having a great time.   Then late in the evening we had a knock at the door.   I opened it to find a Policewoman who asked if I was Paul Stevens, father of Daniel Stevens.   I knew then something was very wrong.  She then informed me that my son, Daniel, had taken his own life.

Twenty minutes later we were alone, with no support at all from anyone.  It left our entire family completely broken.  I have never witnessed a pain like it before, or since.

In the years following I have done whatever I can to help those struggling.   I support Clarity, a mental health charity based in North Devon to spare someone else from our pain.  It was always our wish to keep his name alive and now we can do just that with Danny’s Line”

At Clarity, we believe passionately that everyone should have the opportunity to access mental health support.  Our vision is for a mental health and counselling service dedicated to improving everyone’s day to day life … for life.

We are developing Danny’s Line as a suicide prevention and support service to fill the gaps we have identified in the services available locally.   It is our intention to collaborate with, rather than replace or compete with any other statutory or voluntary sector service in North Devon, to ensure that that no-one feels they have no-where to turn.

Danny’s Line will allow access to a qualified and experienced counsellor at the end of the phone between 5pm and midnight, 7 days a week.   Blue-light services are able to contact us direct, or pass on our number to people at risk of taking their own lives, or their parents, carers or next of kin.   Our counsellors will provide telephone support when it is most needed.  Anyone who contacts Danny’s Line will then receive a follow-up call the next morning by the office based team at Clarity, and fast tracked into our counselling service.    We will work with other providers in North Devon to ensure everyone receives the most appropriate support.

Clarity is a registered charity, and all of our income is raised through grants and donations.  To ensure our service is accessible to those who most need it, we do not charge for our support, though we do encourage donations from those who can afford it.   No-one is ever turned away from Clarity because they cannot afford help with their mental health.

Please help us by making a small donation. Thank you
