Daniel’s Dental Outreach

Dear friends and family,
After many years of school, exams, assignments, shadowing and volunteering, I am thrilled to be nearing the completion of my dentistry degree in University College Cork. As some of you may already know, I will be travelling - alongside 12 of my classmates - to Nepal this summer to put my newfound skills to the test in a totally new environment. Nepal, which is still recovering from the devastating earthquake of 2015 is one of the most poorly resourced countries in the world and has a mere 300 dentists to serve a population of almost 30 million!
I will embark on a 10-day Dental Outreach trip to a geographically isolated, mountainous village near Pokhara and Kathmandu with “Around Good People” - a non-profit organization focused on oral healthcare activism. During our stay we will set up mobile dental clinics that will provide free treatment to the community in the form of check-ups, fillings, extractions and oral health information. We will also ensure the training of a local volunteer to become a “barefoot dentist” - a person who will be given the means to provide basic preventive oral healthcare on a long-term, sustainable basis.
As a volunteer, I will be financing the program fee, which allows the provision of equipment and materials needed, accommodation and meals. I also plan to fund-raise for my air fare to Nepal and vaccinations. My aim is to raise €2500 with any surplus going towards extra dental/surgical equipment. I am kindly asking for your support/participation in raising funds towards this endeavor or simply by sharing this message with another family member/friend.
Thank you for your support in helping me achieve my goal of providing dental services for those who need it most and for being a part of my journey to becoming a well-rounded dentist!
Regards,
Daniel Browne
