Mentoring in Cape Town South Africa

I am a graduate student in New School’s Creative Writing Masters of Fine Arts program in New York City. I work as a writing consultant for college-bound high school students, undergraduate and graduate students, and first-time job seekers.

Writing, teaching and connecting with others; these are my passions. When I work in my passions it fills my soul and I am better as a woman, a stronger leader, and an informed global citizen.

 One Heart Source (www.oneheartsource.org) has asked me to join them for a 4-week teaching and experiential learning in Cape Town, South Africa this summer. One Heart Source is a volunteer mentorship program whose mission is to “end poverty in our lifetimes by empowering people through high-quality global initiatives focused on education and health.” While there, I will join a cohort of volunteers in teaching Math and English to students while learning about the culture and community.

I am excited about this opportunity because it represents a perfect blend of passions in a new environment. I appreciate all the support so far and am now solely raising money for my flight and personal expenses while I am away. 

I will keep you informed of my progress and my experience while in Cape Town. I greatly appreciate your investment in me as I continue to earn my graduate degree.
