Power Tools! Romania! Helping!

YOU GUYS, I'm totally addicted to volunteering! And I'm going to Romania next to build houses for families in need. My experience helping out during the Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts in Staten Island and the Rockaways clearing debris, gutting houses, and working closely with homeowners as they navigated their frightening new reality as disaster victims was a sobering and exhausting experience. It was also incredibly joyful. Working alongside hundreds of volunteers, local residents, community organizations, city agencies, and groups from every possible faith, I witnessed a genuine and profound esprit de corps. It was this experience that inspired me to look for more volunteer opportunities where I could expand my skillset and also use power tools because POWER TOOLS ARE SO MUCH FUN.

On March 23th, 2013 I will be meeting up with a Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Global Village team in Bucharest. From there, the twelve of us will make our way five hours north to the town of Comanesti where we will work with the local HFH chapter building affordable and sustainable homes for families in need.

As part of my volunteer commitment I need to raise $1,800, but with your help I'm hoping to raise $2,000 or more so that I can also purchase tools to be donated to the local Comanesti chapter. Habitat uses the funds each team raises to cover costs of the project including building materials, in-country transport, and logistical support for volunteers. I will be covering the costs of own my plane fare, vampire hunting supplies, discothèque entry fees, and any other extraneous expenses incurred while saving the world.
