Daniel Kirtley Medical & Rehab Fund

33714992_1539457081853372_r.jpegOn a beautiful sunny day on Sunday, September 30, 2018 Daniel Kirtley went out for simple bicycle ride that would change the course of his life forever. On a solo ride during that afternoon he suffered a tragic bike accident and sustained a life-threatening traumatic brain injury. Unfortunately, Daniel wasn't found until the following morning, more than 12 hours after his wreck. He was quickly transported and then air-lifted to University Hospital in Louisville, KY where he underwent a 3+ hour surgery to remove a large clot on the ride side of his brain. He also suffered damage to his eye and skull structure (temporal area),and also sustained a fractured collarbone and multiple cracked ribs, cuts and contusions.

For a week and two days, Daniel battled in the ICU with assistance breathing, troublesome fever, erratic blood pressure and brain swelling.  There was much touch and go and his family remained always at his side. His team of neurosurgeons and trauma doctors were guarded about his outcome as the days passed.

But he is a strong, strong spirit. In and out of consciousness, he has fought to be weaned from the ventilator, and begin the healing process. He is currently now out of ICU and is awaiting transfer to Frazier Rehab Hospital where he will begin a long, neurological recovery. How long we don't yet know.

We also don't yet know the extent of Danny's neurologic deficits, but we know that with this traumatic brain injury (TBI), he will get the best neuro therapy and attention he needs. With the road to healing and rehab ahead, the costs associated with his care will be tremendous.  Insurance (as complicated as it is) will help, but there will be a major financial need to help Daniel in his journey toward recovering from his accident.

Family and friends have been so supportive with prayers, thoughts, cards and messages. We thank you all. Please keep them coming!

We know that Danny is one big-hearted guy and he has so many friends and acquaintances that his life has touched forever. He has always been a giver, an unselfish soul who helps others. He needs your friendship and help now more than ever!

We are asking for your continued support by donating any amount - no amount is too small or too great - it all helps in the mounting costs for his medical care, now and in the future. Please consider a donation for Daniel and please share this link with your family and friends who also may wish to help, even in some small way.

Funds will go directly to an account designated for Daniel and used exclusively for his healthcare and rehab.

We will keep you posted with updates and his hopeful progress to a healthy recovery from his injuries.

Please donate and help spread the word!!
