Tonka's Medical Fund

If you know me, you know that I have a very difficult time asking for help, but you also know I would do anything for my dogs.

We have been so incredibly lucky to have rescued Tonka last September. As a pitbull mix, it's not hard to assume he spent a large chunk of his life being mistreated; judging by his cropped ears, people in his life had terrible plans for him. After a questionable life in and out of shelters, he came into our lives and that's where he'll stay.

Last week, we found a large lump on the side of his throat. He's been diagnosed with lymphosarcoma; while it's a treatable cancer and a large percentage of dogs go into remission, it's a long and expensive process that includes constant bloodwork, chemo, ultrasounds and medication for 6 months. It's overwhelming, but we need to try.
If we could do this alone we would, but sometimes we just can't be our own superheroes. Please help be a superhero to our pup; even a few bucks will help us take care of him and get him the treatment he needs.

Thank you, thank you thank you.

I will be posting updates on his health on his Instagram page (yes, I'm that parent): @tonkathetown

To my Tonka Truck;

From the moment I met you, I knew you were meant for me.

Your ears are cropped because someone wanted you to hurt other dogs or maybe even people, and they needed you to look mean. They couldn't see how inherently good you are; how you just want to play, snuggle and eat (Emphasis on the 'eat'). So you had to go through your life with a false identity on the outside- you got used to people calling you names, turning the other way when they saw you, as if you were some kind of monster. At 8 years old, your eyes held so much pain and rejection from having to teach yourself that even though you'd like to say hi to someone, they probably don't want to say hi to you. When I first met you, you sat in front of a room full of people, scared and unsure of what they wanted, but knowing that you were going to do everything you could to make them happy. That's all you ever want to do; make people happy.

So we scooped you up & moved you in only a couple of days later. Your other mom said I couldn't re-name you RuPaul, but that's still an open discussion. I guess it's true that opposites attract, because you met your foster brother and it was like you two had been siblings your entire life. He loves you and dotes on you and lets you play with his toys. You even give up your prized collection of tennis balls for him to play with, and that's when I know it's true love between you two.

We've only had you since September,  and you've lived up to your dream of making people happy. Every single day you've made us laugh and smile, sometimes in ways we didn't even know you were capable of.  You have taken on the role of being our protector; while you probably wouldn't hear an intruder from deep within your nap time, you proudly walk with us, *your* humans, making sure no loose tree branch or crow gets in our way.

Your level of compassion is astounding. When I fell on the floor to hug you and cry when I found out about the cancer, you immediately took it upon yourself to comfort me. Your usual manic and drooly kisses became soft and apologetic, as if you were trying to say you were sorry for the pain that you're in.

The love I have for you is astronomical. You are a magical creature, and each day I get to come home to your slobbery kisses snuggle sessions.

100 years wouldn't be enough time with you, but we only ask for as much time as you can give us, and I know deep down in my soul that you have more time on Earth- your new life with us is just beginning. Someone once wanted you to be a fighter, and I never thought I'd see the say where I would ask you for the same thing. But in this context, for the right reasons, I beg you to be my fighter. We have such a great big world to show you, and it's FULL of tennis balls.

Besides, I'm not giving up on you answering to RuPaul one day.
