These are my kids. My daughter, Livi who is 8, was heartbroken when she realized how sad and scared the kids of Hurricane Harvey must be. We live in San Antonio and had a very brief period of worry. So she asked me if she could help. We discussed how the whole country is working on donations for these families, and she pointed out that someone should help the kids with their sad hearts, especially those who have lost everything. She decided that each child should have the comfort of some everyday kid things, but in a bag that is easily portable. She put together a backpack with a coloring book, crayons, a reading book, a small toy and a stuffed animal.  When she explained what she wanted to do, her  brothers all jumped on board as well. She wants to do more of these and then drive them to all areas affected by Harvey to be distributed to the displaced children. She is calling them Happy Heart Kits and has a goal of making at least 100. We are locally looking for physical donations, but all financial donations will go 100% to the supplies she needs for these kits. Each Happy Heart Kit will have tote or backpack, coloring book, 2 reading books, crayons/colored pencils, small toy and a small stuffed animal to love.  She does everything on her own. She gathers supplies, she puts them together, choosing carefully which animal should go with which coloring book to bring the biggest smile. She stacks them and counts each one repeatedly. She pairs the books to make sure each child gets a young reader and chapter book that will be interesting together. She does all of this on her own with a smile and a happy attitude because she knows it's worth it to make these children happy.  All thank you emails in response to donations are typed and sent by Livi.
