Medical Assistance for Zafar

The 17 year-old Zafar, the eldest child of Awoz Billah and resident of Jalalabad, is the sole breadwinner of his household that consists of his elderly parents, and 3 young sisters. What started as a small lump in his right foot, started growing aggressively in no time. Due to financial difficulties, it took him 3 months to save some money to get himself to Kabul for diagnosis and treatment. While in Kabul, he was not given a proper diagnosis and was told that his right foot has to be amputated from below his knee. Unable to bear this news, he came back to Jalalabad and has been desperately looking for ways to treat his condition. Upon learning of his story, Children Without Borders, forwarded his diagnostic reports to a very well qualified doctor, Dr. Zadran, and he has been diagnosed with Squamos Cell Carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.

Zafar needs to be transferred to Raouf Medical Complex in Abbotabad because if the tumour is not resected immediately, he could be at risk of amputation and losing his foot.

The total cost of his surgery, including pre-operative cost and post-opearative cost will be around $3000.00. He will need extensive treatment post operative for a minimum of 2 years as the reoccurence chance of this type of cancer is extremely high, if left without treatment.
