Wheels for Scott’s Wheels
Hello Friends!
It is with a humbled and proud heart that I ask for your support for my “Wheels for Scott’s Wheels” campaign to purchase a used 2012 Honda Odyssey that is fully-wheelchair accessible; one that will greatly enhance my quality of life.
As many of you know, I was entered into a contest earlier this year to win a new wheelchair accessible minivan, but did not win. The need for this vehicle has not gone away --- it actually increases with each day I live with a disability. Many of the people who supported me during that contest suggested that I start a GoFundMe Campaign, so here I am!
Due to paralysis from my waist down that occurred when I was 15 years old, I have only known how to drive with my hands thanks to the installation of hand controls. The process of driving for any person with a disability like mine is more complicated than for the average person. The process entails transferring to the car, disassembling the wheelchair, placing it beside me, and then reversing these actions upon arriving at my destination. While this routine has enabled me to drive myself to and from work and to take my kids to school, on family vacations, to doctor’s appointments, haircuts… even to drive my wife to the hospital twice when she went into labor --- it has also caused significant wear and tear on my body.
This year, I turned 44 years old; I have lived life with a disability for nearly 29 years. Health issues have forced me to re-examine many things in my day-to-day activities, including my means of transportation. As a result, I must reduce the number of transfers that I do in and out of the car in order to protect my hands, arms, shoulders and back. The minivan would facilitate easier transfers due to a retractable lift. The vehicle is also spacious enough for me to relieve pressure to my bottom, which is extremely valuable since I spend most of my day in a seated position.
To that end, this wheelchair accessible vehicle has a cost of $50,000 (yes, they are very expensive, mainly because of all the modifications). Over the past few years, we have saved some money for this purchase, so I am seeking to raise HALF of the funds ---$25,000--- in the next 12 (my lucky number) days.
There are also three REWARD levels that I have created, as I want to GIVE SOMETHING BACK to those who are able to contribute at a certain level.
1. For $1500, you will receive five individual life coaching sessions with me.
2. For $900, you will receive three individual life coaching sessions with me.
3. And for $600, you will receive two individual life coaching sessions with me.
If those reward levels are out of your reach I ask that you consider a donation of $50 or more to help me reach this goal. Remember, NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL, and every dollar you share will bring me and my family one step closer to our goal.
