Erin's Fight Fund

If you have met Erin Floyd, you have experienced the epitome of human sunshine. From a very early age, Erin has been dedicated to a life of service to others. Whether she was studying medicine, practicing yoga, or chatting with friends, Erin always radiated a warmth, a passion, an intensity that enveloped everyone in its presence. 



Tragically and completely unexpectedly, in the early morning of Sunday, March 28th, Erin suffered a major stroke. She is still in the hospital with almost no use in the right side of her body. Her biggest fight, however, is that, as of now, Erin has difficulty in comprehending and producing speech. We still cannot guess the level of recovery we are going to continue to witness, but it seems clear that, even though she is not done with her first year of residency, Erin will not be practicing medicine in the way that she was planning on for so many years. 




In this last week, the whole Floyd family has traveled to Wisconsin to support her fight through this unforeseen and unconscionable obstacle. We have packed up her apartment in anticipation of her month long stay in a rehabilitation facility. From there, she will be living with her sister, Sarah, in Little Rock, AR, where we are hoping she is going to regain much of her strength and abilities. 



While going through paperwork at her apartment, we were reminded of examples of how much Erin dedicated her time and resources to helping others. We found that Erin had  sponsored a young 6-year-old boy in Colombia up until the age of 22 years old, and Erin has continued donating to support him all this time. If any of you have visited Erin in her apartment, perhaps you have seen the rows of yoga props: blocks and blankets and mats and straps that Erin purchased with her own money so that she could teach yoga classes to seniors in San Francisco. All of you reading this, we are sure, have your own memories and examples of the kindness and nerve that Erin radiated. 




Although Erin is having difficulty communicating right now, it is clear just by looking into her eyes that her indomitable spirit still remains. If you’ve met Erin, you know that she is a fighter. Erin never took “no” for an answer, and there’s no way she’s going to start now. Erin will have significant health, legal, and cost of living expenses moving forward.
