Hello beautiful people, my name is Yasielle Dana Nuñez and I am fundraising for my study abroad trip to San José, Costa Rica.
Thank you for opening this link and contributing your time to read about my journey.
Ever since I was an eager and curious senior in high school, I had known that I wanted to study abroad. As I delved deeper into my major, Holistic Psychology and Creative Communications, I realized how much I value wellness. On my quest for a country to study abroad in, Costa Rica sparked my interest with its ecological diversity and its collectivist culture. The Medical Spanish & Health Sciences program at Veritas University offers me the chance to take courses such as Holistic Health Approaches, Health & Nutrition: A Sustainability Approach and various other courses that expand my knowledge on wellness.
Witnessing my family members endure diseases such as Crohn's disease, or disorders such as depression, has illuminated the goal of pursuing Naturopathy; a system of medicine based on the healing power of nature. The harmonious relationship we have with nature should be used to our benefit amongst the impermanent methods of relief that are given. I aim to bring alternative medicine to a very traditional medicine society. Growing up in The Bronx, I am aware that medication is being pushed out into marginalized communities to continue to keep us at bay. Doctors should be equally problem-focused as they are solution-focused, so it can encourage a holistic health approach. People should be able to live fruitful lives and I hope to assist with the longevity and wellness of various lives.
I am humbled and honored that I get a chance to make it out of my neighborhood and have a shot at making places like where I come from, and overall around the world, better.
I would greatly appreciate your support as I take this step in my academic career and get closer to fulfilling my dream. Thank you for your contributions whether you shared, donated, or just opened and read, you have played a part in my life long journey.
