We’re asking for your support to keep Catskill green and growing! We are the Catskill Tree Council, an all-volunteer group committed to (what else?) our public trees, and all of the people who benefit from our community forest.

We have been especially busy this year, and we’re proud to share a few highlights of our recent work:

2024 marks the 4th consecutive year that Catskill has been named a Tree City by the Arbor Day Foundation.
We celebrated Arbor Day on April 26th by planting a scarlet oak at the High School with Catskill students of all ages
Thanks to the generosity of Left Bank Ciders, we held a fabulous soup night fundraiser this spring
Proceeds from this and other donors funded the planting of ten flowering Eastern redbud trees in the Thomson Street Cemetery
Our dedicated volunteers have continued to prune and care for the memorial trees on Main Street
The new Catskill Tree Council website allows us to share news, offers information you might need, and provides ways for you to contact us or to get involved.

Three years ago, we were able to raise $8500 to hire certified arborists to conduct a tree inventory in the village. At this time we are asking for funds to:

Plant more trees
Hire arborists to treat diseased street trees
Provide more tree-related public programs for children and families
Seek grants to help us grow and protect our community forest for future generations

Studies show that communities with access to trees and green spaces are associated with improved health outcomes, lower average temperatures, reduced crime, and an influx of other kinds of investments and new economic opportunities. A community that cares for its public trees benefits everyone, setting an inspiring example for other municipalities, and serving as a living demonstration of the benefits of healthy public trees.
