Crystal Lake Community Food Sheds
Donation protected
COVID 19 has been hard on everyone this past year, with illness and loss of jobs/work, but for many people in our community it has created an increased amount of food insecurity.
Last fall, I started donating to the Canterbury Elementary School Food Shed, and noticed that not only were my donations gone within a few days, but there was also not enough space for both the food and non-food donations. I reached out to the school and asked if they would like an additional, bigger shed for food only items and they could keep the original, smaller one for non-food donations? They said YES!!! So in November 2020 my family donated a large shed that was able to about double the amount of food donations, while the other was used for donations of cleaning supplies, diapers, baby wipes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, laundry soap, dish soap.....
The response to the sheds at Canterbury has been fantastic, and donations have increased. So I reached out to the School District and proposed adding more Community Food Sheds at additional schools throughout Crystal Lake, to increase access to resources, by those in need in our community. They welcomed the idea and together we decided to replicate the setup at Canterbury Elementary school. They have requested sheds at the following locations, in order to maximize availability in all areas of Crystal Lake:
- Lundahl Middle School (large & small shed)
- Bernotas Middle School (large & small shed)
- Hannah Beardsley Middle School (small shed- they already have a large shed)
I would like to raise $2500 to cover the cost of the sheds, and the shelving & storage containers for inside the sheds. Any additional monies raised will be used to buy donations to stock and fill the sheds- ALL money donated will go into the sheds!
Please consider donating and helping those less fortunate than you in our community. Any donation amount would be greatly helpful and appreciated by myself and the community. We are all in this together!
