Croatia clean up mission: Jade & Nic adventuring for good ✨

We’re Jade and Nic, best friends since Nic was born 16 years ago in Johannesburg, South Africa, one month after me.

Growing up we were joined at the hip and as we’re both only children, we adopted each other as siblings. During Covid, I moved across the world to a small town in England. Suddenly, we didn’t see each other at braais every weekend or speak our secret language to each other at school. And yes, we would drive eachother mad sometimes but as distance made the heart grow fonder, we appreciated every second together after that.

We’ve decided to embrace the opportunity to meet each other in our August school holidays ‘25 by doing some good for the planet and Croatian local community. Through International Volunteer HQ, we will be setting off to Omïs, Croatia this summer on a marine conservation project. This will involve cleaning up beaches, coral reefs and local comunities and protecting coral reefs by educating locals on how to live more sustainably. We picked Omïs because of its vulnerability. Being down the coastline from the popular party town of split, the town’s waters are flooded with thousands of tons of rubbish from upstream. Our job will be to save the marine life and make sustainable changes to the actions causing these problems.

This has always been a dream for me in particular and Nic, being Nic, was immediately in for the adventure. We’re both finally old enough to make this happen and with the help of some awesome supporters, friends, family, anyone in between- we truly believe we can make a difference. We recognise the impact that this can make on locals, coming from South Africa and growing up surrounded by people in need.
