Please support Ping Pong Parkinson of Rochester, Inc., a program designed to stop the progression of Parkinson’s Disease (PD). For people with PD, ping pong is a form of therapy that improves quality of life through exercise. To launch the program, we must raise $7,500 to purchase sturdy ping pong tables and related equipment and provide funding for guest instructors and healthcare professionals. The program will be offered at the Perinton Community Center in Fairport, NY beginning in January 2025.
PD is a movement disorder and the fastest-growing neurological disorder globally. As it progresses, it becomes more debilitating. Physical symptoms can include tremor, stiffness, loss of coordination, slowed movements as well as disrupted sleep. PD can also affect gastrointestinal motility, mood and cognition. These symptoms can take a toll on overall physical, emotional and social well-being.
While there is no known cure, there is hope! A number of studies have demonstrated that playing ping pong-together with session exercises for flexibility, mobility and cognition-improves physical functioning, quality of life and mental well-being in those with PD. Ping pong may be particularly helpful because it incorporates balance, rhythm and body control and develops focus and hand-eye coordination.
Note: Ping Pong Parkinson of Rochester, Inc. has applied for tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions will be retroactively tax deductible upon the approval of the application.
