Driving Opportunities for Australian Women Cycling

What? An Australian women's domestic cycling team. Existing of up to 14 ladies from 17 years of age. The team's mission? To become one of the best teams in the world. To offer the best possible pathway for young women to reach their potential in the sport of cycling whilst inclusively completing studies and or other professional career developments. To deliver as many riders to World Tour racing (the highest level of racing in the world) as possible and to educate young women in the cycling profession, specifically in nutrition, training, recovery, race tactics, team dynamics and media training.

Why? There is a lack of opportunity in sport for women as it is, let alone the considerable gap that remains in the sport of cycling domestically in Australia. We want to help bridge the gap and leverage the dedication and talent of these incredible young women to assist them in achieving their dreams in the sport of cycling because our motivation to help these women matches their motivation to achieve these dreams.

How? Ultimately, with experiences. Racing domestically and internationally to allow them exposure to the highest levels of competition, in its own right, is one of the biggest reasons the gap exists. We will give the athletes access to staff with a proven history of success at developing talent and sending them to the highest level in the sport. Additionally, we will assist the riders in providing them access to leading athlete managers to help them elevate their careers in cycling. We will hold training camps and have world-class testing and coaching available for all athletes.

When? Now is the time we must act; with the gap growing, not narrowing, we must do something now. We have an incredible opportunity to make a genuine difference for the current generation of young women cycling and the many generations to come after. We genuinely believe that with the proper financial assistance, our supporters and we can be pioneers for the sport of cycling and young women cycling all over our great nation.

We require more than the $100,000; however, we have tentative agreements for sponsorship of bikes, components and clothing. In addition, we continue our search for partners in many other areas, and if you believe you can assist in a more formal sponsorship, we would love to hear from you. For the amount raised, there will be a proportionate space on the team's race jersey to represent the funds raised.

We aim to have the athletes race the Australian summer and spring and run a 4-month European calendar. We will update regularly and encourage your questions if there is anything you have concerns about.

  1. How you are related to the person(s) you are raising funds for? I am the manager of the team.
  2. Your withdrawal plan to get the funds from your GoFundMe to the intended beneficiary/ies? The funds will be put into the teams business account and directly used to fund the teams operations.
  3. How the funds will be spent (please be specific as possible)? the funds will be spent on travel for the athletes to and from race meetings, entry fees for race meetings, insurances for the athletes and teams operations, equipment purchases and accommodation costs.

Kind regards

Patrick Shaw
