Hello everyone, as many of you know, Mike is finishing up his third year at Life University. He is moving on to his 4th month in student clinic and will be transitioning to outpatient clinic next quarter. He will be graduating as a Doctor of Chiropractic at the end of 2018. Full disclosure, he is not a major fan of me making this page although I happen to know that people LIKE to support a worthy cause. I assured Modest Mike that a donation to this life changing experience is not just a donation to help us individually, but most importantly, a donation to help us help others.
It is with great honor and excitement that I get to tell you that Mike and I will be traveling to Haiti at the end of September for a 6 day chiropractic mission trip. Elephant in the room, I am not a chiropractor, BUT luckily the organization we will be traveling through is an organization that welcomes all volunteers to simply spend time with the people, play with the children, offer love and compassion as well as help organize, feed, teach etc. I feel so lucky to be able to do this kind of work along side my husband as I never thought this day would come. This venture is one where Doctors of Chiropractic, Chiropractic students and other volunteers get to help less fortunate people by educating and providing chiropractic and humanitarian care to those in need. Michael and I, as a team, believe that everyone in this world deserves to live a life without pain and suffering, which is why we vow to dedicate our life’s work to serve others.
Mission Life International is a nonprofit organization that works to provide humanitarian aid for citizens of impoverished countries. MLI organizes charitable mission trips, raises funds to build schools, orphanages, and homes for those in need. MLI also educates and provides communities with programs that familiarize people with the benefits of drugless healthcare. MLI works with many people, including chiropractors and compassionate volunteers to fulfill its purpose.
Why Chiropractic? Chiropractic is the science, art and philosophy of detecting and removing vertebral subluxations. Subluxations are minor dislocations of spinal bones (vertebra) that cause the nerves exiting the spinal cord to become impinged. When this occurs the brain is not able to communicate messages from the brain to the body and vice versa. These messages can be for heart rate, digestion, or even breathing, among other things, The brain also allows us to interact with the world; how we feel, who we love and what motivates us. If there is interference in the transmission of these messages, a person will be unable to function at their highest potential, which can impact physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Chiropractic adjustments restore the brain- body connection to facilitate healing and improved nervous system communication.
As a student, Mike is living off of loans and I help with my social work salary the best I can but a trip this big would be difficult to make happen without the help of our amazing friends and family. We are setting our goal to raise $2,000 to cover the cost of program fees and flights. Anything above our goal will be given directly to the orphanages that we will be serving at. Please consider donating to this mission, and further consider yourself a vital participant in this endeavor. As Gandhi said, “be the change you wish to see in the world,” and that’s simply what we are trying to do. My favorite quote remains one I ask myself often, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?’”- Martin Luther King Jr. Thank you for your consideration my friends, we look forward to this journey.
