COVID-19 relief fund for SU students

The COVID-19 pandemic has reached our peninsula and is now hitting SU students and their families.
Realizing a need for mutual aid for our communities at this time, and inspired by similar efforts (https://www.gofundme.com/f/covid19-relief-fund-for-lgbtqi-bipoc-folks?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet), we launch this fund on May 1st2020 to collect donations in support of Salisbury University students and families dealing with COVID-19. We are a small group of concerned faculty, affiliated with SU, but this fundraiser is not organized by the University. While not a solution to larger problems that require larger actions, this fundraiser hopes to offer a bit of support in a critical moment, for bills, groceries or textbook purchases. We know that what we are doing is an imperfect solution to a very large problem, but we are trying anyway.
None of the people managing this fund (and none of their household members) will receive monies from this fund. We will continue to raise funds through May.
Here is how it will work:
Students interested in applying for support should do so by entering this survey
THE SURVEY WILL CLOSE on Friday May 15th2020 at 11:59PM PST
Meanwhile we will collect donations through May. After May 15thwe will start distributing funds.
In “Round 1,” we will redistribute $100 to every person who applied.
In “Round 2,” if there are more funds available after the first round, we will prioritize additional fund distribution to applicants who are (in no particular order):
Of a minority group
Not eligible for paid sick leave through any organization
On the cusp of losing housing
Food insecure
Round 2 of funds will be distributed according to the following formula:
* Give every person who asked for $101-400 the full amount requested
* Give every person who asked for $401+ 60% of the amount they requested, or $400, whichever is greater.
* Individual grants will be capped at $1500.
Funds will be distributed via Venmo and PayPal payments.
