Emergency shower truck deployment in response to COVID-19
We have temporarily suspended our services in ALL states due to this outbreak, visiting so many sites with older volunteers is not good practice in this season!
HOWEVER we will NOT let this virus beat us...
Our plan is to have our shower trucks in central locations where people who are experiencing homelessness can access showers and hygiene products to reduce the risk of contracting and transmitting COVID-19 on a mass scale.
We will deploy this in: VIC – QLD – WA – SA – NSW
If just one or two of our friends on the street contract this deadly virus it would sweep through the homeless community like wild fire, putting enormous strain on the already stretched health system and causing the virus to linger as they have no way to self-isolate.
Most support organisations have closed their doors or severely cut services because of the virus, and this means there in little or NO access to shower facilities.
We are asking for the support of our generous community members, businesses and private donors to implement our plan to reduce the risk of our street friends contracting and spreading COVID-19.
THE PLAN
· Deploy our trucks to open (park) spaces on the edge of the CBD
· Trained operators on site, and equipped with the necessary PPE
· Providing, hot showers, toiletries and hand washing facilities
· Educating on good hand / personal hygiene
· Teaching how to implement social distancing and healthy practices
· In partnership with organisations who hand out packaged meals
We will work with health providers such as Homeless Health Connect who will have medical professionals on site, educating some of our most vulnerable about safe practices as well as doing temperature / medical checks, looking for fever and other symptoms
If we act quickly and implement this strategy effectively, we will greatly reduce the risk to our friends on the street, to our families, to our community and beyond.
These actions would also alleviate a huge amount of pressure on the hospitals and the health sector.
We need your help us with this - We need your help to secure resources and funding required
Most of our usual volunteers are mature aged, retired people who are incredibly generous with their time and efforts but in this instance we are not able to put them in harms way as the elderly are more susceptible to this virus.
We need to employ and train people to drive and operate the shower trucks so that we can ensure a very high standard of operation, cleanliness, safety and consistency in the services.
Our mobile shower services are funded by donations from the public, applying for grants and private business and as you can imagine, we are seeing a massive decline in the number and amount of donations coming through due to the crisis and effects of it on local businesses and families alike.
However, we are certain that there are many people out there who know how important it is that we activate these services as soon as possible to slow the spread of this vicious virus.
We need your help to run this schedule for at least the next 3 months and will review the need then.
I would like to stress the importance of making action a priority in order to prevent as much spread of this devastating epidemic that is sweeping our planet.
Have we asked councils and governments, YES but this process is takin way too long and getting answers in this current time is hard.

· Fuel – Gas and Insurances
· Professional Hazardous Cleaning Fees
· Consumables (Gloves, Masks, Hand Sanitiser, Cleaning Materials)
· Wages for 3 months (activating services) in capital cities
