100KM for NHS COVID-19 & UK Black Lives Matter Fund

On the 13th of July I will be cycling and running a combined 100KM (62 miles) to raise money for the NHS COVID-19 Charity & UK Black Lives Matter Fund. If any of my family, friends, followers or colleagues could take the time to share this page or make a small donation, I would really appreciate it.

Introduction

2020 has seen events which will undoubtedly change the world as we know it. The COVID-19 pandemic and the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department have caused waves worldwide. The two events, although tragic have also created a newfound sense of solidarity between our communities.  I aim to raise money for two charities at the heart of this - The NHS COVID-19 Charity & UKBLM FUND.

NHS Charities Together

Donations will go towards helping NHS staff,  volunteers and patients tackle the COVID crisis.  It seeks to provide financial support to NHS staff, fund technology for hospitals and patients and support young people with mental health issues. We have all witnessed how paramount the NHS are to help tackle this crisis and every penny helps us put a stop to COVID-19.

UKBLM FUND

Black Lives Matter UK (BLMUK) is a coalition of black activists and organisers across the UK. The charity is guided by a commitment to dismantle imperialism, capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and the state structures that disproportionately harm black people in Britain and around the world. UKBLM build deep relationships across the diaspora and strategise to challenge the rise of the authoritarian right-wing across the world, from Brazil to Britain.

What will I be doing?

On 13th July 2020 I will cycle/run a combined 100KM (90/10) over the course of the day. I hope to document this on social media and will share pictures and screenshots from my fitness tracker & Strava along the way.

I will be sharing this with friends, family and colleagues and I am asking for any donation, no matter how small, from anybody who sees this post.

Once I have completed the 100KM, I will take the total amount that has been donated and will contribute a further 25% of the total value * from my own money. I will then take this amount, divide it into two equal chunks and donate 50% to each charity.

I would very much appreciate if you could take the time out of your day and make a small contribution towards this.

* Up to a maximum of £125 (25% of the total goal amount)
