Court Fees For Pipeline Fighter

In March of this year, Zakaria was arrested while supporting monitoring efforts of a MVP construction site in Bent Mountain. An arrest warrant had been put out in regards to  an interaction with the police earlier that week. While protesting some of MVPs earliest illegal tree clearing, Zakaria gave false information to a police officer. Though the courts have sided with the police thus far, we remain in our conviction that Zakaria was not lawfully detained when the incident occurred and therefore was not required to provide his true identity at the time. This being the case, we believe he was acting in his right to not comply with the police’s request to give them information. But now, Zakaria is facing jail time. 

The Roanoke police department has sided with MVP all along the development of this destructive project. This incident only reflects their deeper prerogative to see through the construction of the pipeline against the will and well-being of the people they allegedly exist to protect. Zakaria has decided to move forward with his appeal process to fight this repressive maneuver from RPD.
