Courageous Keira

Keira Marie Hoffman is a courageous 6 year old little girl that has been through more in her short life, than any adult would in an entire lifetime. Keira was diagnosed with Unilateral Retinoblastoma, a rare Childhood Cancer in her left eye August 19th of 2013 by Dr. Blumenfield of Central Florida Eye Physicians in Maitland and started her very 1st Chemo just days before her second birthday in Miami at Childrens Holtz Hospital ( a.k.a. Jackson Memorial). Dr. William Harbour  of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami saw her consistently for laser surgeries starting 2013 till now to ensure she stayed in remission.  February of 2014 she celebrated her first remission! During her routine MRI scans. Dr. Harbour's radiologist discovered Keira had a syrinx (build up of fluid)  in her spinal column, she was then was diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation in March of 2016 by a Neurosurgeon which performed a Partial Laminectomy and Duraplasty that was completely unrelated. Come January 2017 Keira's Retinoblastoma relapsed for the 1st time. She underwent her routine exam's under anesthesia with laser surgeries. Here recently her apt's were booking every 12 weeks. She had 4 clear visits. It didn't last long before Keira's cancer relapsed for a second time.  This was now her 3rd battle and it was now in the choroidal layer of her eye.  At this time we had no option but to remove her eye as it can easily metastasize passing this layer.  August 14th 2018 Keira's left eye was enucleated (removed) and a pathology was taken from the socket to see if it had spread any further. We will have the results back in roughly 1 week.  Dr. Harbour has stated it is wise for Keira to stay home during this healing process until she receives her prosthetic eye. I want you all to know that Keira's medical expenses are all covered for the time being through her insurance and the only concern is daily expenses such as bills, groceries, gas, doctor appointments and so on for both households as it is a split household and both families will make a group effort to get Keira back to her new normal as soon as possible.  We would like to thank you in advance for all of your help.
