Diaper Need & COVID-19 Recovery

Dear Supporters,**

Due to the ongoing economic impacts of COVID-19, PDX Diaper Bank continues to be faced with a dramatic increase in the need for emergency diapers. Families  struggle to purchase diapering essentials, and diaper need in Oregon has been magnified due to the pandemic. 

In order to support even more low-income children and families at this time, our programs are in need of additional funding for bulk/pallet diaper purchasing. In-kind diaper donations are still down, and we've cancelled our annual fundraiser dinner & auction (again). Your contribution to this campaign would help off-set the COVID-related losses suffered by PDX Diaper Bank (and so many others). Every gift, no matter the size, is truly appreciated and impactful!

How COVID-19 Is Impacting Diaper Need
Family need for diapering essentials has skyrocketed, while donations of diapers and wipes are still down due to business closures and social distancing measures. Diaper drive events are still down 50%, and many of our local business partners that accepted diaper donations from members of the community have permanently closed their doors.

Even prior to the pandemic, 1 in 3 families experienced diaper need. Now, as parents will be seeking employment and re-entering the workforce, diapers will be needed more than ever. Diapering supplies are required by childcare facilities; without diapers, parents can't go to work.  

"Thank god I was able to get these diapers. If I couldn't get them today [to provide to my daycare center] I probably would have lost my job."   -Local mom, working towards housing stability and safety 


Why We’re Asking for Support on GoFundMe 
Much of the current financial support that PDX Diaper Bank receives from foundations, businesses, and private donors is going directly to support increased bulk diaper purchasing due to the impact of COVID-19, as well as to support current expansion of our programs to meet community need.  PDX Diaper Bank purchased 729,614 diapers in 2020 alone, a 500% increase from the year prior. Your support will: 

>  Provide aid for additional bulk diaper purchasing in order to help stretch PDX Diaper Bank's overall budget in order to continue expanding services.

>  Increase our capacity to expand our service network, as well as meet increased diaper need in the community at this time.
