Connor's Eagle Scout Project

My name is Connor Larsen. I have been in Boy Scouts since 2011 when I joined Troop 211 in Apopka, FL. Today, I am 17 years old and a Life Scout pushing toward earning the rank of Eagle.
I am working on my last requirement toward this achievement: the Eagle Scout Project. This is a service project benefitting others within my community, in this case the City of Apopka, FL. I have to plan and execute my Eagle Scout Project while demonstrating leadership of others.
While looking for a project that would give back to my community, it was brought to my attention that one of our city's local parks was in rough shape. The park sits on a beautiful lake known as Dream Lake. Upon inspection I discovered that the park was split in half by a canal and that the north and south sides of the park did not have direct access to each other. After doing some research I discovered that the park once had a bridge crossing the canal but that it had been destroyed many years ago.
With the blessing of the City of Apopka, I came up with a plan to construct an arched bridge across the canal that would allow access to both sides of the park. In addition a lot of vegetation and debris has built up in the canal so I plan on cleaning that up as part of my project as well. The bridge will be approximately 28 feet long and 4 feet wide and will have an arch to help minimize the amount of the bridge that could potentially come into contact with the water should flooding occur and will also be ADA compliant. Having an arched bridge will also help frame the view of the lake from the canal.
I am asking friends and family to help fund my Eagle Scout Project by making donations to help pay for the materials needed to build and seal the bridge. My goal is to raise $1500. Once I reach this goal, I will work with scouts and volunteers to clean up the canal and construct the bridge. I hope that my contribution will bring happiness to this community and provide them with a beautiful environment to enjoy Dream Lake Park. (my fellow Scoutmate Adam will be laying new brick paths and fixing the existing picnic tables for his eagle project) his project will be done in conjunction to mine.
