Liza came into my life as a foster, pulled from the high-kill shelter in Devore, San Bernardino. Her name was Isis—a nod to my favorite Egyptian goddess and Bob Dylan song. From the moment I saw her little brown frown, I knew she’d be my next foster. What I didn’t know was that she wouldn’t be adopted at any of the events because she had already chosen me as her family. Life has a funny way of deciding things for us.

For the past nine years, Liza has been my steady companion and best friend. She has stood by me during some of the most challenging times in my life, always bringing her boundless love and resilience. She’s been to countless parties, recording studios, and for years reigned as queen of the hill—bounding across the hillside, barking at coyotes, and chasing down the mailman for extra treats. She’s fearless, sweet, and irreplaceable.

Six months ago, Liza was diagnosed with IVDD, a degenerative disc disease. While I couldn’t afford surgery, I took on significant debt trying to manage her pain and help her recover through conservative treatments. Despite all efforts, her condition has worsened, and it’s clear now that the kindest thing I can do is let her go. It’s a gut-wrenching decision, but it is my final act of love for her.

I’m reaching out to ask for help covering the costs of her treatments and her euthanasia. Liza has given me a lifetime of joy, and I want to honor her journey with dignity and peace.
