Community Playground Redevelopment
Donation protected
Back in August 2018 , a charity run nursery raised concerns about Westdene Playground to the local council (Brighton and Hove City Council). During the visit the nursery mentioned how unsafe the playground was due to broken equipment. The nursery also had help from Brighton and Hove Police as they had concerns with the playground. At the time the council said that the playground meets local safeguarding and that it isn't broken.
In 2019 the nursery had to call East Sussex Fire and Rescue out to free a child trapped in a climbing apparatus. Due to the fire crew being busy they then had to call West Sussex Fire and Rescue service. Since the incident there has been for a year no younger apparatus for young children to use while the process was started again of getting the playground redevelopment.
During the pandemic of Covid-19 (2020) and under new management. Brighton and Hove City Council did a risk assessment and the playground failed Health and Safety. Between now and Christmas, all the equipment will be getting removed and it will be an open space.
My First Friends Nursery has raised £8,569.00 from businesses such as
- Sussex Police Crime Commissioner
- Waitrose
- The Entertainer (Toy Shop)
- Chalk Cliff Trusts
- Coop
The community playground is short of £10,000 as the council is putting £40,000 into the redevelopment but need to have £10,000 to make it a £50,000. The more money is raised the more safer the playground will be.
Where the money is going that is raised
- Young piece of apparatus
- Main vocal point of a older apparatus for school age children
- swings
-roundabouts
-rocker and much more.
Brighton and Hove City Council has made the playground a priority and it is first on the list to get redeveloped. They are hoping to start works in Spring 2021
