Community Hub & Housing in Fenelon Falls

Feeding Fenelon is looking to raise funds for a down payment to purchase a space that can serve as a community hub as well as provide temporary emergency housing to folks in need.

Our plan is to purchase a centrally located house in Fenelon Falls that can be used as a community hub for both individuals and like-minded service organizations in addition to Feeding Fenelon to offer help in numerous ways in an intimate and comfortable setting free from stigmatization and judgement. On top of a public community space, we are looking at preparing the space to offer temporary/short term/transitional/emergency housing to members of our community who may be in a position where they have nowhere else to go and/or are experiencing hardship - be it financial or circumstantial, nobody should be without warmth, food or shelter.. and a sense of community.

Feeling a part of something, and knowing that the entire world hasn’t turned its back on you is one of the biggest factors of being able to keep on keeping on, and beyond. That is what facilitates change and doing better. That is what we are striving to do. To do better, and make our town a place where EVERYBODY feels welcome, at home, and taken care of.

We are in the process of applying for grants and bursaries, but it is the community in which we support, that is our biggest support system.

As our town grows, so does the need to take care of each other, to prevent us from inequality and marginalization and being the next example of how growth begets poverty and social injustice. There is already clearly a need in our community, and it will only get worse if we don’t take action now and stay ahead of the game.
