Comfortable at-home birth plan
Hello! My name is Sarah, I’m 20 years old and am currently pregnant with our second child.
My pregnancy has been kinda a disaster so far...
I am currently 18ish weeks along with my second child, and I haven’t had a single prenatal visit yet. The reason for this is that we found out I was pregnant very soon after we moved out of state and we don’t have insurance for this state yet. I got very sick (HG, severe morning sickness, but lasts all day) and had to go to the ER. The staff there were very rude to us and made really harsh remarks and caused problems with us because of us not having insurance, even tho I had described the situation.
Well, fast forward to now, after I’ve applied for Medicaid, we got denied for various reasons that really don’t make sense to us. We can’t reapply for 60 days and even then we would have to wait the 30-45 days for it to process and then set up an appoint which would take up to a month to get me in. I’m already about 4 months along, and I can’t wait another 3 months to have my first visit.
I have found myself to be very uncomfortable with the hospital here after the remarks they made to us and the way they treated us. So rather than waiting til I can reapply for Medicaid to get care for me and my baby, I started looking into other options to help me out and found an amazing midwife that I already feel connected to. She would do all prenatal care and all labs and all meds if need be and all tests and the home birth and supplies for it and breastfeeding care and postpartum care and more for a total of $3500. This is a good price considering I would be paying a lot more out of pocket for normal OB visits until I could get insurance (talking labs and ultrasounds and all that, it would add up very fast without insurance). There is a payment plan option, and I would go with that, but the $3500 needs to be paid in full by the time I am 37 weeks along, so in 19 weeks from now (4-5ish months).
This is my second child, and I had my first mostly naturally in a hospital, I really want to have this one in the comfort of my own home. I’ve never been more sure of something than I am of this.
