Colt's Wish: Bring Kayleigh Home

On May 12, 2018, a father met his daughter for the first time, and the bond was immediate. From that momentous Mother’s Day, Kayleigh’s and Colt’s lives would forever be changed. Unfortunately, their time together was cut short.
Kayleigh’s young life has been an unfair whirlwind of which no child should experience. In November of 2017, Kayleigh’s infant sister ingested methamphetamine, causing her to be airlifted to Little Rock, Arkansas. She is currently in the care of her paternal grandmother due to circumstances of the event. In July of 2018, Kayleigh was removed from her mother’s custody and placed with the Department of Human Services (DHS). In that same month, Colt was granted emergency custody through the courts.
As a family, we want nothing more than Kayleigh to live in a safe, stable, and consistent environment. Throughout this journey, Colt and our family have fought, and will continue to fight, for Kayleigh. Kayleigh has formed incredible bonds with Colt’s family, as we all have witnessed and invested in her day-to-day well-being and care. Colt verbalized, time and time again, that if anything were to happen to him, his only wish was for his family to fight for and raise Kayleigh.
After Colt’s death, Kayleigh’s maternal grandparents filed for custody, not only removing her from school and her regular therapy appointments, but also, her family. Prior to his passing, Colt and his family endured months of turmoil and disarray between the court battles and the travel. And, we know in order to grant his wish, we will continue to face such factors until we bring her home.
