My name is Colby Thiel, a Life Scout from Boy Scout Troop 143 in Woodbridge, New Jersey. I started my scouting interest when I joined Cub Scout Pack 31 and then crossed over into Troop 143 in 2012. As soon as I joined, I was hooked as I am an avid outdoorsman in fishing, hunting, and camping. Being that this program offered me to do both fishing and camping, I knew I wanted to stick with it. Outside of Scouts I love working on cars, bikes, small motors, and basically anything that can accumulate rust, grease and grime. Many people I met in Boy Scouts have similar interests as me so I was able to connect with everyone very quickly and successfully. Very soon I will be starting my Eagle Project which is one of the last things left for me to obtain Eagle Rank.
My Eagle Project consists of two parts, a workshop building phase, and an installation phase;
For the building phase, my troop, family, and friends will meet at the Woodbridge Elks Lodge 2116 in early October to build a visitors sign-in podium, two covered informational signs, two osprey nests, and five wood duck boxes as well as eat a breakfast & lunch.
The installation phase later in the month, will consist of putting in five wood duck boxes, the visitors sign-in podium, and one informational sign at the Ernest L. Oros Wildlife Preserve. Also, we will be installing the two osprey nests and the other informational sign on both sides of Port Reading Avenue in Port Reading, New Jersey. This will greatly help sustain and improve the wildlife population at both locations, as well as educate the community about the area and different bird species.
This is a big project that needs a significant amount of funding, so any donations will help and will be very much appreciated. I am trying to complete my fundraising portion of the project by the end of August 2017.
