Cohans Cause

This is my nephew Cohan and unfortunately he will never be able to ask for help or even talk. He will never be able to walk or eat normal food. Cohan was diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy when he was 7 months old after his biological father pushed a dummy down his throat to stop him from crying. I remember the day the doctor walked into the room after the incident and told my younger sister Jess (18 at the time) that her baby would need 24/7 care for the rest of his life. I remember how brave and determined my sister was when she was told. I remember how extremely overwhelmed I became knowing that my sister only had myself and our other sister for support. I remember how proud of my sister I was hearing Cohan wake up multiple times a night and my sister comforting him and repositioning him every single time. I still can't express how proud I am of both of them.
My sister Jess is the most amazing and caring mother to Cohan, her 1 year old daughter Iya and my daughter Cherry. Jess has always supported me during the hardest times of my life and has helped me raise my own daughter Cherry even when she has the weight of the world on her own shoulders. Cohan is the strongest little boy in this world after suffering seizures weekly, waking up multiple times a night from his muscles spasms and watching the joy it gives him watching other kids running around having fun and playing, His smile still manages to light up every room he enters. No-one in this world has inspired or motivated me as much as Cohan has with the strength and resilience he shows everybody around him every day. I believe god chooses his strongest angels to be mothers of children with special needs and anyone that knows my sister Jess knows that she really is a living angel.
My sister desperately needs a new disability van that accommodates for Cohan's new wheelchair. Cohan has outgrown his car seat and Cohan is getting to big for my sister to keep lifting to and from his car seat. A new van is vital to getting Cohan to and from his therapy, doctor appointments and school. Jess has just put all of her savings into a deposit on a new home to suit Cohan's needs and has received little to no support from government services or non for profit organisations after repeatedly asking them for help, any family that has worked with these agencies would understand the struggle to get the bare minimum from them. Cohan's biological father has no involvement in Cohan's life or contributes financially in any way. Our mother moved away when we were young and our father suffers from alcoholism so as the oldest I have always felt it was my obligation to protect and support my sisters in every way possible. This is why I am asking for your help today. My sisters and I are very proud people and we find it difficult to ask for help with the hardest of things, we have come from a family with no support emotionally, mentally or financially and I have always done my best to make sure I support her family in anyway I can but right now we really need the support of the community and anyone that knows our family.
We understand times are extremely tough for a lot of families at the moment and there are plenty of much needed causes that need support but we are only asking for what Cohan needs and this is something my sister and Cohan deserve more then anything. It would mean the world to us if we could give her family one less thing to worry about and something that will benefit their lives so much. Even if its just one dollar every dollar really counts!
