Coffer Building Project

Donation protected

Jon Coffer was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma in August and is now undergoing immunotherapy at the University of Michigan hospital.  It may take several months to determine if the treatment is effective.  Jon's construction business is no longer able to fully operate and his ability to work has been compromised, resulting in the need to put his construction business on hold.

In recent years, the Coffer family has worked to upgrade and expand the size of their house to better suit the needs their family, including 5 children.  At 950 square feet, the existing structure simply won't work for their family and cannot stay as it is.  Jon has already built a new two-car garage and expanded the basement, to accommodate an addition.  The next step is to demolish about 3/4ths of the existing house and replace it with a custom-made modular unit, bringing the house to 1500 square feet.  The rendering shows what the finished project will look like, minus the dormers, porch, and finishing of the second floor.  The 5 year survival rate for this disease is 66% but if Jon is unable to work again, the fully funded project ensures that this family has a good living situation.

The monies from this fundraiser will be added to existing funds and used to purchase the modular unit, carry out demolition work, connect the modular unit to the existing house and garage, make progress on finishing work, etc.  If we are able to raise more than our goal, the monies will be used to help finish the garage, in addition to possibly finishing the second floor and adding the dormers and a front deck, which would be considered the final phase.  The estimated cost to complete all work is around $220,000 and the Coffer family hopes that Jon will be able to go back to work in the future so that they can complete the final phase themselves.

Jon is unable to continue with the work on his own and needs your help to complete this project!  Please strongly consider helping financially or physically to meet this need.  Monetary donations may be made either through this site or directly.  For direct donations and additional ways to help, please use the Contact button to reach Bob Benjey (Jon's father-in-law), who is running point for this project.
