Friend in Need

As my friends know, I raise money for one organization each year - Special Olympics RI....but I am stepping out on a limb and asking for help for a friend.   This woman is an internet greyhound friend who lost her job several months ago and has run out of unemployment benefits.

Today I found out she has only $45.00 left to her name - with no income.  She is feeding her food to her dog and has given up her vehicle.

She is not lazy.  She has worked with temp agencies and gone on interviews - but as some of us know all too well, getting a job while unemployed is often challenging.  She is willing to work - to do anything  - and even willing to move.   She is in the Philly area now.  She would take a job at a fast food restaurant or answering phones or working in a call center, but has just had no luck despite her persistance.  Sometimes we get so down on ourselves that we don't present the way we want to.

She has no family.  Her dog is her only true companion - and while I know some would say she should give up the dog, I can't imagine how that would impact someone who has noone else. 

I am hoping to raise enough money so she can pay her rent and utilities until she can find some work.  She faces eviction very soon.

I will also be posting separately on FB trying to find her work - she is willing to go anywhere and work for minimal funds - but needs a place for she and her dog. 

Again, I normally wouldn't ask for this - but I can't turn my back when I know someone is at the end of her rope.
