Cliff’s Kidney Transplant Journey
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Candice Howard. My husband Clifton Howard “Cliff” is currently awaiting a new kidney. He has been on the transplant list for two years now. While he has been making the best of life, and still trying to work, the doctors have told him that he needs to prepare for a transplant sooner than later. Cliff will be out of work for a few months after the transplant; and he will have reoccurring visits to Emory University Hospital twice a week for up to two months, then once a week for at least one month. During this time, post surgery, he will not have any income to maintain his monthly or additional medical bills. He was also informed that he will have anti-rejection medication that may not be covered by either of his insurances, and that is very expensive. What we would like to do is to raise enough money by the time of his transplant to help alleviate the additional stress from Cliff, and allow him space to go through this process and promote healing and a speedy recovery. If you can please donate to help him reach his goal. If you cannot donate, please share this information and link. Also, another way to help Cliff is to become a donor. I have added information on types and how you can donate. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks in advance for the support.
Update:
We have a new update! Cliff got a call from the Transplant Team! He will be going for his transplant evaluation on the 29th, and we will have a meeting with the social worker on the 8th. We still don’t know when he will have the transplant yet; but God is good! We have progress! All counted as blessings. Thank you for your continued prayers, support, and donations. We appreciate you all! Please continue to share. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
A lot has transpired since the last update. Cliff went through the evaluation process, with his cardiology evaluation being the last piece of the puzzle before he could get the call. That was on the 21st of Feb. After a full day of testing, we got some news we weren’t looking for. He failed his stress. They have now turned their attention to his heart. He has been placed on inactive status for the kidney transplant until they do further tests on his heart. Once he can be cleared he will go back into active status, and he will not lose his place on the list. We will be at Emory University Hospital tomorrow, 3-11-24, for his Heart Cath. I will update again when we get the results. We ask for your continued prayers and support during this phase. Thank you all for showing up during this journey.
Update follow up:
We do have to go back next week. His stent is 90% blocked. Next week they are going to go in and open that artery back up, and possibly the one that is 100% blocked. They will also replace the stent with a new one. They gave him the option to do open heart surgery; but of course he doesn’t want that. The doctor said that he would not recommend that if the other way can work. He did want to give him the option though. Cliff is still being Cliff. Lol! He’s taking it day-by-day; and trying to stay positive. By God’s grace he is still able to work and do mostly anything he wants to. We are thankful for the discovery; and even more so for the blessings and opportunity to correct what’s wrong. Grace, Mercy, and Favor is definitely apart of his story and journey. #partofGod’splan
Cliff did well with the heart cath procedure today. He is resting and looking forward to discharge tomorrow morning. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
Update:
I know it’s been a while since our last update. Well, things were a little tough to face emotionally as Cliff had been removed from the active status because of growing health concerns. Today we received great news. Because God is who he said, and he always is on time, Cliff received the call that he has been placed back on the active list where he left off! He is back on track, his health issues have been resolved, and he is in much better spirits. We thank you for the continued prayers and support. The donations are more than appreciated. I will update with the next move towards victory.
