We are raising funds to support the next phase of the school project in Thiafoura, Senegal: the construction of three classrooms for the village high school (lycée).
Each classroom costs €15,000 to build.
Thanks to artists who donated their work and everyone who supported the exhibition hosted by Imane Farès Gallery in Paris, €8,000 has already been raised toward the first classroom.
This fundraiser aims to raise the remaining €7,000 needed to complete that first classroom.
Any funds raised beyond this goal will go directly toward constructing the remaining classrooms.
What Has Already Been Built
Through the work of Let’s Build My School (LBMS) and collaboration with local builders and volunteers, the village now has:
• Four classrooms for secondary education
• A library, which can also be used during examination periods
• Sanitary facilities
The school opened in October 2025, and today, around 70 students are already enrolled.
The Next Step
The next phase of the project is the construction of three additional classrooms for the lycée (high school) so more students can continue their education locally.
These classrooms will be built using stabilised earth bricks, a local and climate-adapted construction technique that provides durability, thermal comfort, and low environmental impact.
Using locally sourced materials also means the construction techniques can be replicated and maintained within the community, strengthening local capacity for future projects.
Project Budget
The total budget for the three classrooms is:
€45,000
€15,000 per classroom
Your support will contribute directly to the construction of these new classrooms.
About Let’s Build My School
Let’s Build My School (LBMS) is a NGO dedicated to building schools in areas where educational infrastructure is limited.
Since 2016, LBMS has helped build five schools across Senegal, serving 1,089 students today:
• Keur Racine Kindergarten - 62 students
• Tivaouane Peulh Elementary School - 400 students
• Marsassoum School - 170 students
• Djilakh School - 387 students
• Thiafoura Secondary School - 70 students
Each project is developed in collaboration with local communities, using construction techniques adapted to the local climate and materials.
Why This Matters
When schools are far away, continuing education becomes difficult for many families. Expanding the Thiafoura school site will allow more students to continue their studies within their own community.
Every Brick Counts
Every contribution helps move the project closer to completion.
To end on a quote Leila has shared, Nelson Mandela says “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
Thank you for supporting the next chapter of this initiative & being part of this build!
