Hello Friends and Family,
I just spoke with a friend who came back from their birthright trip. Only 26 people attended the trip, out of a total slated 40. What's more depressing is that the plane was only a third full.
At a time when our people needs us most, I have the opportunity to go to on a solidarity mission to Israel, and represent us, the Phoenix community.
The trip, organized by Keshet, will include:
-Meet and comfort the families of the murdered teenage boys
-Visit injured soldiers in the hospital
-Visit the communities of southern Israel to hear about life under fire
-Get behind the scenes with security briefings from political and military leaders
-Volunteer with families affected by the war
-Hear from some of Israel's finest commentators and critics
-Wrestle with the issue of "tohar haneshek" (purity of arms) with army commanders and scholars
-Stand in solidarity with IDF soldiers guarding the borders, serving on the front lines and locating and destroying the Gaza tunnels
When I return, I will educate others, in my VBM Leadership Fellow capacity, on what we can do to support our homeland, Eretz Yisrael. I will be happy to discuss the trip 1 to 1 with you, as well as speak at any events you'd like for me to share with, to embolden the love for Israel in our community.
Like me, you have probably watched the news from Israel and around the world in recent weeks with a mixture of sadness, outrage and very deep concern. Like me, you have probably wondered how you can better understand the conflict and what you can do to help.
I would like to invite you to support my solidarity mission to Israel from August 31st – September 4th. I know it is a lot to ask, especially on such short notice. However, there is no better way to show our support than to support someone GOING TO ISRAEL. There is no better way to ensure the citizens and soldiers of Israel that you care than to send someone to tell them ourselves.
While it is imperative that we support the Israeli people, it is also expensive. I would be humbled and honored if you found in your heart the desire to participate in this journey by giving a small contribution of whatever amount works best for you. Everything helps. Everything counts.
