Christmas Gifts for Refugees

My mother, Sandy, is a nurse who has dedicated her life and career to caring for newly-arrived refugee families in New South Wales, Australia.
With Christmas just around the corner, my family and I went through the motions of trying to figure out what we wanted to buy each other, and what we might like in return.
As the weeks passed, however, we realised that none of us needed or wanted anything.
So, instead of buying each other things out of habit or tradition, we have decided that we will spend our Christmas money buying gifts for the NSW-based refugee families that my mum and many other refugee nurses look after.
When refugees arrive in Australia, they are given the basics: toiletries, clothes, towels. But unless they have their own money, these families often aren't able to buy themselves and their loved ones the nice, cool, fun stuff that we all get at Christmas.
So, the money raised here will be used to buy the same gifts for these families as we would have bought each other: toys, games, books, sports equipment, fashion items, make-up, stickers, pencils, hats, bags, scarves, stuffed animals, school supplies, Lego, Playdoh, glitter!
Refugee families come in all shapes and sizes, from babies and toddlers to teens, young adults, parents, retirees, and the elderly.
If you would like your donation to be used to buy something specific or for a certain age bracket (0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-30, 31+), you're welcome to get in contact with me or leave a comment with/after your donation.
Similarly, if you would like to have a hand-written card to go along with your donated item - perhaps welcoming the family to Australia, or simply wishing them a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays - I am happy to organise something privately with you.
The cut-off date for donations will be Wednesday, 21 December, 2016.
You can donate as much or as little as you like. Every dollar will help make someone else's Christmas a little bit brighter :)
