Christmas for Orphans in Malawi

Donation protected
Five years ago, I was preparing to leave Malawi for the first time. Saying goodbye, I gave my friend Innocent the kwacha (Malawian currency) that remained in my worn-out envelope.  He had a vision to start an orphan ministry in his home village. An orphan himself, he wanted to encourage orphaned children. He told me that he wanted to start by having a Christmas party for this group of twenty-five children that he'd already selected and built relationships with.  He combined my gift with donations from some other friends, and a few weeks later emailed me some pictures from the first Christmas party.
Malawi is the third poorest country in the world. 51% of the country's population are children.  Farming is the number one source of income, but the unpredictable weather often leads to drought or floods causing the inevitable annual hunger season.
The following year, I returned to Malawi to live for 16 months. Over that time, I was blessed to visit Innocent's home village several times where I met the children and their guardians.
I visted the children in the homes where they each live with their guardians--a relative who takes care of the  orphaned or abandoned child. The greatest challenge that the guardians face is providing food.  With no jobs to be found and prices of staple foods like beans and maize flour climbing every day, some of the children attend school without eating breakfast. They come home, and there is no food for lunch. If they're lucky, there will be something for dinner. If not, they go to bed and hope for something better tomorrow.
We want to give these children a reason to smile on Christmas. Our vision is to  bring the children and their guardians together and have a food distribution for these families where they would receive staple foods to take home and use in the coming weeks.
Your donations bring hope to these children and their guardians. I've had the privilege of living with these children--looking into their eyes and sharing a smile, laughter, or a tear. I've seen how relationships change their lives--relationships with people, but mostly with Jesus. I've been blessed to shake hands with their guardians, who don't have a way to provide the next meal for their family yet open their homes to care for more children. They're on the other side of the world, praying for God to provide for them. Will you choose to be part of that provision?
