And we're BACK! This year, thanks to our recent partnership with the Latin Medical Student Association Southwestern Region, we're going bigger than ever and expanding to shelters all over the state of Texas!
It's time for Christmas at the Border again! Last year we raised almost $3,000 to bring Christmas to the children in Bokencamp Children's Shelter and to a shelter in Fort Worth (Fort Worth Catholic Charities). This year we will be expanding our efforts to other shelters all over Texas.
As many of you know, for a period of time, there was an order for family separation at the border. In Texas, more than 4,000 children have been placed at nearly 40 state-licensed shelters and foster care homes in 11 counties, according to Texas Health and Human Services data. Almost 600 children do not know the location of their parents or when they will be reunited.
These children are without their parents and family and cannot spend Christmas with their loved ones, so we will be raising funds to purchase gifts for each child. Due to Covid, we will not be throwing a party this year but we will make sure every child receives a present!

¡Y estamos de vuelta! Este año, gracias a nuestra reciente asociación con la Región Suroeste de la Asociación Latina de Estudiantes de Medicina, ¡vamos más grandes que nunca y nos expandimos a refugios en todo el estado de Texas!
¡Es hora de Navidad en la frontera nuevamente! El año pasado recaudamos casi $ 3,000 para llevar la Navidad a los niños en Bokencamp Children's Shelter y a un refugio en Fort Worth (Fort Worth Catholic Charities). Este año ampliaremos nuestros esfuerzos a otros refugios en todo Texas.
Como muchos de ustedes saben, durante un tiempo hubo una orden de separación familiar en la frontera. En Texas, más de 4,000 niños han sido colocados en casi 40 refugios con licencia estatal y hogares de acogida en 11 condados, según datos de Texas Health and Human Services. Casi 600 niños desconocen la ubicación de sus padres o cuándo se reunirán.
Estos niños no tienen a sus padres ni a su familia y no pueden pasar la Navidad con sus seres queridos, por lo que recaudaremos fondos para comprar regalos para cada niño. Debido a Covid, no organizaremos una fiesta este año, ¡pero nos aseguraremos de que cada niño reciba un regalo!
¡Es la temporada de dar! Cualquier cantidad cuenta. Si no puede donar, ¡haga correr la voz!
