I am asking for financial support to help with my educational fees to complete my college education at Concordia College in Portland, OR. I have completed 1 semester of my Freshman year. I was raised in Hawaii and my parents divorced when I was 6. By the time I was 9 I was put in foster care for 3 years. Life at the time was very confusing but I always knew I wanted to be something and make a change in this world.
I was the first of my family to complete High School and go on to College. I love books, love to read and I love my Hawaiian Culture. I was president of my Hawaiian club in high school. I played sports and paddled in a Hawaiian Canoe Club. During this time I was named Athlete of the year!
My senior year was a nightmare. My family was behind on rent and we lost electricity for over 8 months. I had no computer, no food at home. My therapist helped buy me food and clothes. I got a parttime job and supported my self.
Now I have been accepted to Concordia college and attended my first semester with the help of many mentors, social workers & family who pieced together financial support for my first semester to cover the expences after the scholorships and loans I received.
However my family and supports have provided thousands of dollars to me and are now at the breaking point. again. My parents work very hard with low paying jobs and take home essentialy $1,600 a month. To cover my tuition this Fall they have fallen behind with their rent and electric bill. I have been accepted for an on campus job in the Spring Semester to help with the costs.
With all humility and hope I now turn to this community to raise the $3, 700. needed to cover tuition, books, minimum expenses ( $60 a month Spending money)
The money will be sent directly to an account at Central Pacific bank in Aiea, Hawai'i. My therapist will disperse the money accordingly thoughout the next semster.
