Chris Garven cancer fight
Beschermde donatie
After suffering through a range of mysterious symptoms for over six months, and trying to find help with a variety of specialists, a CT scan for a throat issue showed that I had enlarged lymph nodes through my abdomen. Further imaging and a biopsy showed a large tumour in my abdomen, and I was eventually diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma called a desmoplastic small round cell tumour (DSRCT) which has metastasised to the lymphatic system.
I am currently undergoing chemotherapy at the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, a specialist cancer hospital in Sydney. The long-term prognosis is that my cancer may be incurable, with chemo aiming for disease control and remission. Subject to how the cancer, and my body, react to the treatment, there may be a number of rounds of chemo.
There have been and will be some costs associated with the treatment, though much is supported through Medicare and in other ways. Costs and potential treatments into the future aren't necessarily known. I am also not working while undergoing treatment, and the timing and extent of a potential return to work isn't clear yet. My wife Martha is also currently on maternity leave with our first son Archie (10 months), before returning to work part time next year. Any donations would be gratefully received and would help support our family as we all navigate this challenging time.
Further, or alternatively, I would encourage you to consider donations to one of the following:
The Cancel Council - which funds research into prevention and treatment of various cancers, as well as providing support to those affected by cancer.
https://www.cancer.org.au/
Chris O'Brien Lifehouse - which is a not-for-profit hospital specialising in and providing comprehensive cancer treatment. In my limited experience thus far, it provides a high standard of care for patients.
