Our family suffered a horrible tragedy on April 26th, 2022, when our 13-year-old son, Tristan took his life by suicide while at school.
He left this world, but he passed with purpose. He made it clear he wanted things to change. And we are determined to make those changes happen. Our mission surrounding his desire for change is reflected here in our Fundraising Campaign. Please stay with me...
At the heart of this we hope at the very least, we get the conversation started about 3 tough topics:
-mental health
-parental alienation
-suicide [prevention]
In our particular case, all 3 of these major issues were bundled together and handed to us in one very messy package to manage, alone. We've lived in turmoil since 2018, with very few resources and little concern from anyone of power or authority when addressed. And unfortunately, our son's suicide was the result.
So, we're going to flip the script and become our own advocate and also, an advocate for others. In order to do that, we are going to tell our story, hold people accountable, continue to enroll in every single training opportunity and educate ourselves so we are fully equipped to assist others. Whether it be direct donations to school programs through this campaign, using funds to form outside-of-school group sessions, obtaining resources for other parents and children or appointing legal representation for those in need, we ARE here to listen and help. Our story in itself is complex but we will continue to speak in hopes it will help just one person.
We plan:
To assist our community in focusing on the importance of the mental health of our families and youth to break the cycle.
To bring awareness to the regular occurrence and signs of parental alienation, lack of consequences for the alienator and the severe effects it has on children and alienated parents.
To help develop a plan and new protocols to enable schools to respond quickly and effectively in the crisis period after a suicide death.
It is clear that when any of the "3 tough topics" go unsupported there can be severe consequences, it is our reality. We as a community need to do better for ourselves and our children. We realize what Tristan did changed our lives forever and we don't want another family to have to live through this. We had a definite idea of the impact Tristan would make on this world; knew he would do BIG things - we just didn't know it would be this. He touched the lives of many people in our community with his spirit and his smile, and we hope to be able to continue to shine his light by spreading the purpose surrounding his death and the literal message he left for us.
